What I've been Tinkering with Lately:FuroshikiGreat ideas come from all over and sometimes get lost for a while, but always come back. Furoshiki is a Japanese method of carrying objects that dates back to the Edo period (1603 to 1868). I've been working since summer on a small furoshiki book to help spread the word about this fabulous, simple and reusable craft. To find out more about this fabric wrapping, there is an article in CRAFT magazine featuring furoshiki and you can also do a search on YouTube for furoshiki, and you'll see dozens of "how to" videos. I've been working with a local print designer to have a PDX Softgoods line of furoshiki wrapping fabrics. Look for them and my "how to" booklet soon! Check out my show schedule to see furoshiki demonstrations! Here's a link to a fellow furoshiki enthusiast www.ecoshikis.com who also resides in Portland. Fabric Produce BagsEveryone is being more diligent about taking their reusable fabric bags to the grocery store and working together to cut down plastic bag consumption. Seriously, why are we still taking those plastic produce bags? Here's a resources on how to make your own reusable fabric produce bag: Wisdom of the Moon and you can search on Etsy for "produce bag" to find fabulous crafters to buy them from shop locally if you can. I'll be making a more festive produce bag with adorable washable prints. These bags can first be used as gift wraps, then reused many times as produce bags. If you have any special requests, please email me and we'll create something fun! |
